RSAT stands for Responsible Supply of Alcohol Training. It’s a course that must be completed by any person that will be making same-day alcohol deliveries to members of the public within the state of New South Wales. As part of the state’s commitment to promoting safe alcohol practices, this training aims to prevent alcohol-related harm, reduce incidents of intoxication, and uphold legal obligations surrounding alcohol supply.
In this article, we’ll explore the key components of the RSAT course in NSW and its significance in fostering a culture of responsible alcohol supply. We’ll also cover a number of frequently asked questions regarding the NSW RSAT.
Who needs an RSAT certificate?
Anyone classed as a same-day alcohol delivery provider will need to hold a valid RSAT. This includes:
- Food delivery providers that also offer alcohol delivery in addition to their food delivery services
- Licensed takeaway liquor providers, including both those that offer online and those that offer phone sales within NSW
- Individuals that provide same-day delivery of alcohol in NSW
- All other businesses that provide same-day alcohol delivery to the public in NSW.
When is an RSAT not required?
An RSAT is not required for businesses offering same-day delivery of:
- Alcohol that is packaged and being delivered to another licensed business
- Under 1.5 litres of packaged alcohol in a hamper, such as a gift hamper or picnic basket (this includes Christmas food hampers with wine).
What is taught in an RSAT course?
A number of topics are covered within the six modules of the RSAT NSW course. These topics include the NSW liquor laws, identifying intoxication, preventing underage drinking, responsibly refusing supply, harm minimisation strategies, and compliance and enforcement within the state.
What is the difference between RSA and RSAT?
The NSW RSAT is a requirement for persons that are involved in the same-day delivery of alcohol within NSW. In contrast, the NSW RSA is for the Responsible Service of Alcohol, and is a legal requirement for those that are involved in the sale or service of alcohol.
When was the NSW RSAT introduced?
The RSAT was introduced by Liquor & Gaming NSW in 2021. From 1 December 2021, it became a requirement that the RSAT be held by anyone making same-day deliveries of alcohol within New South Wales. It’s the responsibility of delivery providers to ensure their employees and contractors hold a valid RSAT certificate.
